Samsung launched a new revision of their high-end 970 EVO Plus SSD. The new Samsung SSD 990 EVO offers performance improvements of up to 43% in read and write speeds with sequential reads hitting the 5,000 megabytes-per-second (MB/s) mark and write speeds reaching up to 4,200 MB/s with Random read and write speeds topping at around 700K and 800K input/output operations per second (IOPS) respectively, on the 2TB variant. Featuring Host Memory Buffer (HMB) technology, the SSD achieves optimized performance even without a DRAM design, ensuring faster loading times for games and efficient file access. The 990 EVO improves power efficiency by up to 70%, supporting extended PC usage without constant battery life concerns. It also enables Modern Standby for instant on/off functionality and seamless connectivity in low-power states. The SSD’s heat spreader label maintains thermal conditions, allowing consistent high-level performance. Available in 1TB and 2TB options, the 990 EVO supports PCIe 4.0 x4 and PCIe 5.0 x2 interfaces, accommodating current and future PC requirements. Samsung Magician software offers optimization tools, including health monitoring, data protection, and timely firmware updates.
